Modelling good standards

Bethany School operates on the basis of sacrifice and service. Parents give sacrificially of their time, money, effort and expertise. Teachers and support staff – full time/part-time, paid/unpaid, parent/professional – all give sacrificially to enable the school to function. Children need to be trained in these ways and made to see the costs of discipleship as well as the joy and blessing of obedience. Parents and teachers who, as part of their service towards God, seek out ways in which they may serve the families involved in Bethany School, will model to the children the “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus” (Phil 2:5) and “Unity through Humility” of the Servant King, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Equipment

The infant department (R-Y3) will provide equipment for their classes.

A PE kit should be provided.

All other children will be expected to provide the following equipment:

  • pens, pencils, rubbers, colours (pencil crayons), rulers, calculators (seniors), scissors (seniors)

  • indoor and outdoor P.E. clothing *

    • sports top (Bethany tops are available to buy)

    • shorts

    • change of socks and training shoes/plimsols

    • sweatshirt or tracksuit top for outdoors

  • craft/cooking apron and cookery equipment/money *

  • musical instruments *

* On the appropriate day

Note: This additional equipment causes problems in overcrowded cloakrooms and must be taken home on the same day. Parents have the responsibility to ensure the children have the correct equipment on the correct day.

Duties

Duties must take priority over all other matters. Supervision is essential, and teachers need to plan effectively to be promptly in place at the start of a duty.

  • Morning Break

Teaching staff will cover the break duties. The teachers will ensure that the classrooms are cleared.

  • Lunch Break

The class teachers will supervise eating lunch, and staff will cover lunch time playground duty.

Pupils will only be allowed in the classrooms at break time and lunchtime if they are genuinely working on activities approved and supervised by their teacher.

Chewing gum is not allowed on the premises.

Record of Achievement

The school supports the keeping of a Record of Achievement, particularly during Years 10 and 11. Saving a selection of work from any year, class or subject will often provide children a helpful, often amusing record of their progress through Bethany School. Although the school does not organise a Record of Achievement, parents are strongly encouraged to work with their children on this project.
